Hello! Thank you for being here. I am Dr. Muneet Kaur Malhi. I am experienced in working with individuals across the lifespan through individual and group therapy. I primarily enjoy working with adolescents and early adults as they navigate transitions in their lives and the development of their identity. I am highly skilled in supporting people who are struggling to cope with anxiety, depression, and childhood trauma.
I am a Punjabi Sikh Canadian currently living in the US as a non-resident alien. I am a cis-gendered woman and heterosexual. I am keenly aware of the intersectionality of my identities, and those of others, and root my clinical practice in cultural humility. I believe in maintaining an anti-oppressive lens in all that I do to support my clients. I approach each of my clients with curiosity to better understand their intersecting identities and individual experiences. I believe in the importance of empowerment and communal healing.
My therapy practice is rooted in System Theory. I firmly believe that we are all shaped by the context of our environments. Our thoughts, feelings and behaviors are all influenced by the social environments in which we were raised. In therapy, I work with my clients to dissect the systems they live in and interact with to help us jointly understand the impact of these systems on the development of their sense of self. When I think about the factors that impacted my thoughts, feelings and behaviors, I reflect on being raised in Canada by two Punjabi Sikh immigrants from India and my journey to becoming an immigrant myself. As a child of immigrants, I have had to repeatedly re-negotiate values for myself and actively understand why others may have a perspective different from mine, or why mine are different from my loved ones.
I believe each individual finds change through developing an authentic sense of self that they can be in all areas of their life. To develop this sense of self, I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to identify values and core beliefs and develop psychological flexibility. I explore topics of conflicting values and how they may be a result of bicultural straddling and enculturation. Using core values, I also integrate traditional healing practices that may be more fitting for a client rather than what is noted in western psychology; this is my version of decolonizing therapy. I practice and encourage intentionality and living in the here and now.
“When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves.”
― Viktor E. Frankl
I firmly believe that being a Psychologist is my calling. This work fills my cup and, each week, I reflect on how grateful I am to be living a fulfilling life. I currently live in the West Loop of Chicago and am constantly exploring the culinary beauty this city offers with my partner. In my spare time, I read fantasy romance novels and snuggle with my dog, Jatt. When I get the chance, I love to travel back to Canada to visit my family and friends. When I am feeling down, you will likely find me binge watching Twilight or any 2000s Shah Rukh Khan movie.
Dr. Malhi provides individual and family therapy to adolescents and adults (15+). She has worked in academia, community mental health and both inpatient and outpatient hospital settings. Dr. Malhi joined Bodh Center for Wellness in 2024.

What comes to mind for you? What systems and institutions do you think impacted your view of yourself, the world and others? Are these aligned with the way you wish to live your life? These are all questions I like to focus on in therapy.
